Brotherhood Spotlight: Bro. Sterling Littlejohn
A Journey Built on Perseverance
Every brother has a story, but some stories remind you exactly what perseverance looks like in real time. Bro. Sterling Littlejohn’s journey is one of those stories.
His introduction to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. started early, influenced by family and community. From seeing his cousin represent the fraternity to later discovering close family connections who were also brothers, the foundation was always there. But what truly shaped his decision to join was something deeper, something personal.
As a young student, Bro. Littlejohn was told by a high school math teacher that college was not in his future. In that moment, his mother stepped in, firmly rejecting that narrative and making it clear that her son would prove that statement wrong. At that moment, while difficult, it became fuel. It aligned with the perseverance and the principles demonstrated by the Seven Jewels. For Bro. Littlejohn, joining Alpha was not just about membership. It was about embodying resilience and staying true to who he is.
Finding His Lane in Alpha
Since crossing in Spring 2018 through the Delta Gamma Lambda Chapter in Cincinnati, Bro. Littlejohn’s journey has taken him across multiple cities and chapters, each experience shaping his growth.
From Indianapolis to Las Vegas and now Detroit, he has consistently leaned into service and leadership. While in Indianapolis, he discovered a passion for event planning through district-level work. That passion has followed him and continues to define his contributions today.
Now in Gamma Lambda, he has found not only his footing but also a strong sense of brotherhood and purpose. He currently chairs the Go to High School, Go to College initiative and plays a key role in planning the chapter’s college fair and mentoring efforts. He is also leading a new initiative, the Alpha Grand Prix experience, designed to bring something fresh to the city while generating funds to support youth programming.
What stands out most is not just his involvement, but the intentionality behind it. Every initiative connects back to impact, access, and opportunity.
Expanding Access and Opportunity
When asked about his vision for the college fair, Bro. Littlejohn is clear. It is not just about hosting an event. It is about changing lives.
His goal is to expand scholarships for on-site students, increase participation across Detroit and surrounding counties, and create opportunities for immediate college access through on-site admissions. He also envisions growing the event into a full college and career experience, connecting students not only to higher education but also to real career pathways.
There is a clear throughline in his thinking. Exposure leads to opportunity, and opportunity leads to transformation.
A Career Rooted in Community
Professionally, Bro. Littlejohn has built a career that aligns directly with his passion for impact. From his early work with USA Track and Field to his time with the Las Vegas Raiders, he has consistently worked at the intersection of sports and community engagement.
Today, with the Detroit Pistons, he operates at a strategic level, helping lead initiatives focused on education and mentoring, social responsibility, and health & fitness. Through programs like Beyond the Baseline, he is helping young people understand that careers in sports extend far beyond what happens on the court.
His approach is simple. Use access and relationships to open doors for others.
Family, Legacy, and What Comes Next
Outside of Alpha and his professional work, Bro. Littlejohn recently reached another major milestone. He is now engaged. He is building a future centered on family.
Raised by strong women, including his mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, he carries those lessons with him daily. As a father to his son Legend, he is intentional about creating a different narrative, one rooted in presence, guidance, and opportunity.
Looking ahead, his goals remain consistent. Grow the community. Uplift others. Expand impact. And continue stepping into leadership opportunities that allow him to serve at an even higher level.
If his journey so far is any indication, Bro. Sterling Littlejohn is just getting started.
