Bro. Lance Woods and We Run 313 publish their origin story via WSU press

Bro Lance Woods (Beta Omicron ’09) shares the details of We Run 313 and its origin in a new book. The following is an excerpt from a recent post noting the book launch.

“Four years ago, we began capturing the stories of our run club—its origins and the powerful journeys of the people within it—documenting how it sparked a movement and grew into a revolution of connection, community, and healing in the great city of Detroit.

WeRun313: The Pulse Of Detroit’s Run Club is a compelling book that captures the heart and soul behind Detroit’s premier run club—and the movement it sparked. More than a fitness group, We Run 313 is a revolution reclaiming space for Black runners in Detroit’s outdoors with power, pride, and purpose. What began as a personal mission has grown into a cultural force. Through vivid storytelling and intimate portraits, this book follows like-minded people of all ages, abilities, and economic backgrounds as they come together to fuel Detroit’s renaissance—from the east side to the west. Their personal stories reveal how running together fosters connection, healing, and both physical and mental well-being. Once strangers, these runners become family—supporting one another through hardship and celebration, sharing job leads, witnessing marriages, and volunteering side by side. We Run 313 documents the club’s joyful resistance and shows how community, movement, and love can re-envision the relationship between Detroiters and their city, pointing toward a brighter future for all. Shoutout to @wsupress for bringing our stories to life!”
