Blood Drive for Sickle Cell
Sickle cell disease affects about 100,000 people – largely African Americans. Sickle cell patients require frequent transfusions of specific blood types. One individual may require up to 100 pints of blood each year. One in three African Americans could be a match for a Sickle Cell Warrior.
One such Warrior is Camille Lonzer, daughter of General President Willis Lonzer, III. At the 97th General Convention in Dallas, the Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the American Red Cross held a blood drive to honor Camille and her childhood friend Jaden Blake, who passed away in a fatal car crash. He was a true hero, advocating, and frequently donating blood, as well as his organs, ultimately saving lives.
On Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Sacred Heart Activities Building, Gamma Lambda will hold a blood drive in support of Sickle Cell Warriors. Brothers and community members are asked to roll up their sleeves and donate. We need 50 eligible donors. Make a commitment today and sign up. You can sign up through the Red Cross Website, or reach out to Brother Anthony Will and he will register you.
Each donor will receive a $20 Amazon Gift Card and a Red Cross T-Shirt. Each GL donor will be entered into a raffle for an Alpha Thermos.
