2022 Michigan District Outstanding Alumni Chapter of the Year

The Gamma Lambda Chapter was named Michigan District Outstanding Alumni Chapter of the Year on November 12, 2022 at the Michigan District Conference held in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The judges for this award selected the chapter for our contribution to the growth of personal service to the chapter members, contribution to the community’s economic development, awards and achievements, and active participation in Alpha and in Alpha National Programs. The Gamma Lambda Chapter was also recognized for being the Alumni Chapter with the most registered brothers. Brother William G. Herbert was recognized for being the oldest registered brother; made at Eta Chapter in 1955, Brother Herbert has over 67 years of service in Alpha. Brother Past General President Mark S. Tillman received the Director’s Award for exemplary service to the District of Michigan.

Outstanding Alumni Chapter of the Year is one of the most coveted awards in the Fraternity. The chapter will complete next at the Midwestern Regional Convention in Columbus, Ohio in March 2023. The chapter has been recognized as the National Outstanding Alumni Chapter of the Year on three occasions: 1967 at the 53rd General Convention in Los Angeles, California, 2015 at the 93rd General Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, and 2021 at the 96th General Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

About the author

Brian Williams: Initiated into Gamma Lambda Chapter in the Fall of 2008. He serves as the Chapter Historian and is a Co-Chair of the Midwestern Region Historical Commission. Brother Williams has a BA in Psychology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a M.Ed in Instructional Technology from Wayne State University.
